A carved stool (bangi) in cedar wood, made by Maroons from eastern Suriname. It is carved by hand, one of a kind, and weighs about 5 kg. Tembe is the Maroon art of carved, often coloured symbols in wood. It is alive among the Pamaka and Okanisi along the Marowijne and Tapanahoni rivers in south-eastern Suriname. Until now this woodcarving was mostly sold in French Guiana. Afu-Mena wants to make it available in Suriname and the rest of the world too.
