This fifth collection by Margo Morrison was published in 2013, marking 150 years since the Netherlands abolished slavery. Its aim is to make young people aware of the hidden side of the history of slavery. The slave trade is often told from the side of victory, power, money and the Dutch Golden Age. The other side, the oppression, the killings and the suffering of the enslaved, was long kept out of the history books. The book also looks at the role of politics, in particular that of Jacob Cats, after whom the Catshuis in The Hague is named. Some poems are written in more than one language, so that young readers also become familiar with Surinamese, the language of their ancestors. 104 pages, ISBN 9789080402966.
