Baby Ketee Uwii, also called Taanga Sikin Uwii gi njun njun meke pikin, are the herbs for the traditional bath of a newborn baby among the Maroons. Gaang man ana, a katoen, bakka pindja, pikin gaasie and pikin nengee poseeng are just a few of the many leaves we use. The leaves are brought to the boil together with a special root, anduu. Soon the nursery fills with a soft aroma that makes many visitors long for a baby of their own. The herbal bath is a familiar part of a Maroon baby's first weeks. If you have questions about the combinations, feel free to contact us.
Use and preparation
Place a few anduu roots on the bottom of a large kettle and add a pack of Baby Ketee Uwii. Add enough water and bring to the boil. Pour the boiled water into the baby bath and top up with cold water until it is a temperature your baby is comfortable with; always check with your elbow. Bathe your little one gently, no soap is needed yet. Afterwards you can pat the baby with a cloth briefly warmed on the kettle; make sure the cloth has cooled enough.
